Why does date-data not use the user's chosen time zone for conversions?
Apparently, the date-data macro uses the site's default time zone for converting between displayed and stored forms. Since our site's user population is global, that doesn't quite work.
Also, I note that when displaying the macro using a timezone specification in a template, it displays the correct time zone (in this case, PDT, acknowledging that the US Pacific time zone is currently observing Daylight-saving Time) in the View Template page, but viewing on a regular page it shows PST.

Inappropriate?I would say it's mostly be cause it gets confusing on the macro side when figuring out which time zone to use in which context. It's probably something that can be improved. I've created an improvement request here:

Thanks, David. I can understand that, though I've had some heated discussions about whether users ought to be expected to set their own local timezones in their profiles. I'm not sure what contexts would not be appropriate for displaying dates with respect to the time zone of the viewer; obviously all of the standard Confluence templates having dates do this. -
Oh, I completely forgot: I still don't have permission to view the JIRA issue you created. I've registered on that site and I'm logged in when I get the PERMISSION VIOLATION message. I would have clicked the Answered starlet but for that... -
Hmm. Ok, we'll check out the permission problem. Thanks for the report. -
With the linked-to issue created and my personal JIRA access issue corrected so that I can see that it does address the problem, I do consider my question answered. Thanks! -
Inappropriate?Hi Brian,
Your JIRA access should have been corrected now.

Alas, no...
I note in my user profile, however, that I am a member of the group confluence-users rather than jira-users as is usually the default group on a JIRA site. -
Inappropriate?Hi Brian,
Can you try again? We have updated the permission settings. -
nope... still get P'ERMISSION VIOLATION... and I have less permission than I had before. Now I'm not in any groups at all. -
Inappropriate?Looks like the permissions had to re-index, and this seems to have happened now. If I could get you to try again. If this doesn't work, can I get you to email us at: plugins@customware.net
-
Still no joy, and still no group membership in my user profile. -
Inappropriate? Can I get you to give us your login or email details so we can find your user?

I emailed you the answer to this question. However, not only did I give you the information for my account on this site, but the problem of my access to your JIRA site has already been cleared up. Thanks for your help.
