I presume that {show-card} renders into a link to show a card...?
...but instead, it says that it
Shows a card in the specified deck

Inappropriate?Well, you need to provide both the deck and the card for it to work, thus you have to specify the deck.
What exactly is the point of confusion? If we can make the documentation clearer that's always a good thing... -
The subtitle says it shows a card in a deck, which would tend to mean that it actually renders into such a thing. I had to read the entire page to figure out that it meant that it renders into a link that will jump to and select the specified card in the specified deck - defined elsewhere on the page, of course.
So yes, this was a request to clarify that subtitle to say that it creates a link that will show the card, and while you're at it, possibly to explain where on the page such a link can appear - or even on another page, which seems unlikely, given that the page isn't among the parameters. -
Fair enough :) I've created a task to update it for the next version here.
In the meantime, to answer your question, yes, it has to be on the same page, but it can be used anywhere on that page, from memory. -
Inappropriate?I'm having trouble figuring out this UI: I can "add a comment" to your original reply, or click the starlet to say it answers my question, but not to your comment that actually does answer my question.
Furthermore, this textarea is titled Reply to Brian M. Thomas's question even though I'm replying to your comment to your first reply. Perhaps the getsatisfaction people intended for you to use this reply box so that I could do that...?
Also, the "How does this make you feel?" widget doesn't make a lot of sense in the context of an authoritative answer. But then, it is optional...
And oh, yeah: I still can't get to the JIRA site, though someone replied to my other comment that it should be possible now. I wondered if it might be that I've been added to confluence-users rather than the usual JIRA default group jira-users.
I’m baffled

Yeah, the difference between a 'reply' and a 'comment' is a little unclear to me also. In the end, it doesn't really matter - use whatever box works for you - they all get to us in the end :) -
Did you note that I'm still denied access to the JIRA projects you've pointed me to? I'm in the confluence-users group there, which seems a bit odd. -
Inappropriate?Yeah, we're still sorting out the kinks...I'll try to update once we get the issue resolved fully.

As noted in my other complaint, my access to your JIRA instance is now corrected; thanks!
